Forecasts
See a 7-day prediction of where a metric is heading.
Below the historical chart on the Measurements page, rabbit | iot shows a 7-day forecast — an estimate of where the metric is likely to go over the coming week, based on its recent trend.
Reading the forecast
- The forecast continues the chart forward in time with predicted points, one per day for the next 7 days.
- Each predicted point comes with a confidence range — a shaded band showing the likely upper and lower bounds. A wider band means more uncertainty.
- The forecast is most useful for slow-moving trends (a tank slowly draining, a temperature drifting up over days).
How it's generated
The forecast is calculated on demand from the device's recent history. When you open the page:
- If a recent forecast already exists, it appears instantly.
- If it needs refreshing, you may briefly see the previous forecast while a new one is prepared in the background — it updates automatically when ready.
Forecasts are refreshed periodically so they stay current as new readings arrive.
Forecasts are estimates, not guarantees. They assume recent patterns continue, so a sudden real-world change (a heatwave, a valve opening) won't be predicted. Treat them as a helpful guide, not a promise.
Forecasts get more reliable the more history a device has. A brand-new device with only a few readings will show a wide, uncertain band until it has collected more data.
