Notification Channels
The five ways an alert can reach you, and how to add them.
A channel is where an alert notification is delivered. Each alert can have several channels, so one rule can reach the right people in the right places at once. rabbit | iot supports five channels.
Available channels
| Channel | Delivered as | You provide |
|---|---|---|
| An email message | An email address | |
| Web Push | A browser/desktop notification, even when the app is closed | An organisation member to notify |
| A WhatsApp message | A phone number (in international format, e.g. +59899123456) | |
| Telegram | A Telegram message | A Telegram chat ID |
| Webhook | An automated message to another system | An https:// URL |
Adding a channel to an alert
When creating or editing an alert, find the Channels (recipients) section:
- Click Add channel.
- Choose the channel type.
- Fill in the target:
- Email — type the recipient's email address.
- Web Push — choose which member should receive the browser notification (they must have enabled push notifications first).
- WhatsApp — type the phone number in international format.
- Telegram — type the chat ID for the person or group.
- Webhook — paste the destination URL.
- Click Add. Repeat to add more.
About each channel
- Email is the simplest and works for anyone with an inbox.
- Web Push is instant and free, but the chosen member must have turned on push notifications in their account and allowed it in their browser.
- WhatsApp is great for urgent, hard-to-miss alerts. Your organisation may have a monthly limit on WhatsApp messages set by your administrator; once reached, further WhatsApp alerts are skipped (recorded as throttled) until the next month.
- Telegram is free with no monthly limit — a good high-volume alternative to WhatsApp if your team uses it.
- Webhook sends the alert to another piece of software rather than a person — useful for connecting rabbit | iot to your own tools. There's no per-alert limit on webhooks.
Add multiple channels to a single alert so the right people are reached wherever they are — for example Email for the record, plus WhatsApp or Web Push for an instant heads-up.
Every delivery is logged so you can confirm a notification actually went out. If a WhatsApp message shows as throttled, your organisation's monthly WhatsApp limit was reached — ask your administrator about raising it, or switch that alert to Telegram or Email.
